Q1: What is the material of the base?
A: The base is made of a poly-resin material.
Q2: How many rocks are included with this fountain?
A: This bag comes with one bag of rocks. Actual number of rocks would vary on the rock size. The fountain shown in photo is with one bag of rocks.
Q3: Is the electrical outlet in the base?
A: The electrical cord comes out of the backside towards the bottom of the base.
Q4: How much water does this fountain hold?
A: This fountain holds just under a quart of water.
Q5: What color is the base?
A: The base on this fountain is black.
Q6: Can you turn off the light and still have the fountain run?
A: You can not turn off the light and have the fountain still run. They are powered together.
Q7: I have never owned a fountain, but I would like one that will give off a smell when used with essential oils. Can I add essential oils to any of these fountains?
A: Unfortunately, this fountain (and most other fountains) is recommended for use with only fresh water. It is not recommended to use other chemicals/oils in it, but you can always place some other products that give off nice smells right next to your fountain.
Q8: How often to I need to change the water?
A: Clean the fountain as it becomes dirty. Regularly changing the water (weekly) will help to keep the fountain cleaner, longer. Keeping the water clean prevents the water from becoming sticky and from forming microorganisms. An algicide or humidifier treatment can also be helpful. Direct sunlight will encourage growth of microorganisms, so it is best to keep the fountain out of direct sunlight.
Q9: Do I have to use filtered or distilled water in my fountain?
A: Distilled water is recommended to keep the fountain cleaner for longer periods of time and reduce buildup.
Q10: Can I have fish in my fountain?
A: No. This is not recommended because there is a pump that draws water through an intake valve.
Q11:
How long will a fountain run?
A: The fountain is designed to run as long as there is water. However, you will need to add water occasionally as it evaporates. Please keep in mind that a fountain is an electrical appliance and should not be left unattended when running.
Q12: Do I need to clean the inside of the pump?
A:
There should be no need to clean the inside of the pump unless it stops working. The pump could stop working from algae buildup. See the Product Manual for instruction on removing algae from the pump. Remove the water pump inlet to access the impeller area. Then turn the rotor to ensure it is not broken or jammed.
Q13: How often will I need to add water?
A:
You will need to add water periodically. The water will gradually evaporate and the pump will no longer be submerged completely. The water line should always be high enough to completely cover the pump. If the pump begins making a sputtering noise, you will know to add more water, BUT you should make a habit of filling the fountain BEFORE the pump makes noise. Before refilling, turn your fountain off and allow the water to drain from the fountain top back into the bowl. If you do not wait for the water to fall back down into the bowl before refilling, you may overfill the fountain and cause spillage.
Q14: How often do I change the light bulb/bulb cover?
A:
Gently remove the bulb cover by holding the bulb cover in one hand and the rubber neck in the other hand. Do not pull on the cord. Pull the light bulb straight out from its socket and replace with a new bulb. Replace the bulb cover.
